Dinner and Dancing

We were listening to tunes while eating dinner tonight. The boys are able to groove to disco, hip-hop, country and rock! :) It started at the table and ended up in a dance party... not sure where they get their moves... some good, some bad... :)

Happy Thanksgiving

We had a great Turkey day at Mom-Mom's... eating, putting puzzles together, and spending time together!

Championship

We had our championship game on Saturday in the wind and rain. The boys played an awesome game but we lost 19-0. Our organization won the Sportsmanship award out of all of the other teams in the league. We have the best players, coaches, fans & parents! Yeah us! I forgot the camera at the end of the season football party but should get it back tonight. Check back for pics...

Sports Update

Today was B's last swim lesson and he passed on to the next level. The kids got to jump in the diving pool at the end of class which was a huge treat. He's looking forward to swimming again this January.

Football... it's not over. The varsity won the first playoff game last weekend and went on to the second round this weekend. K is on kickoff team for varsity and was super excited to play. We won 27-0 today and will play next weekend. Not sure of day, time, location. He got to play offense and deffense in the last half of the game. We'll keep you posted.

Visiting with the Romanos

We had a great visit with Mike, Dixie and Mia on Saturday. Mia is getting so big! She is very bright and talkative, as well as being cute as a button. :) The boys had fun playing with some of Mia's toys, chillin' on the Dora sofa and watching Mia search for bellybuttons. Mia sat at the table like a big girl and wanted 'big' pizza like the boys. :) She wanted the boys to wear bibs for dinner too but they were not feeling it. Enjoy...

Report Card Time

The boys received their first report card for the year, and they were awesome! The grading system for our area is BB (Below Basic), B (Basic), P (Proficient), and A (Advanced). K earned an "A" in spelling, gym and art, and a "P" in math and music! He has been working so hard this year and we are so proud of him! His teacher said that he is a pleasure to have in class and he is a leader.

B earned an "A" in reading, gym and art, and a "P" in math! His reading level at the end of the first marking period is supposed to be between 8-10 and he's at a level 12. His teacher said that he has very good manners and is very helpful.

We're so proud of both of our boys! :)

National Anthem

Kollin had to learn the Star-Spangled Banner for music class this year. At 7:00 this morning, he decided to sing it before his mock football game. Check it out... He gets his singing ability from me. :) (seriously, it's a gift)

K asked that I post the kickoff from the Patriots vs. Raiders game...

Happy Halloweenie!

The boys had a great time trick-or-treating this year. Kollin had a friend walk with us this year and the boys probably ran from house to house for the first 10 minutes. I don't know that I ever had that much energy. Kollin was a football player and Brady was Bumblebee, the Transformer. I'll have to try and get footage of B 'transforming', it's too cute. We reminded them numerous times to remember to say "trick-or-treat" and "thank you". I think they got it about half the time. Brady got quite a few laughs from neighbors. He would remember to say thank-you by the time he walked to the end of the driveway and he'd call back "thank you"... delayed reaction. :) Dani and Oscar walked with us too. She was a pregnant Nun. :) Enjoy...

Our pumpkins rule! :)

We carved our pumpkins today and they turned out great! You can't really tell from the pic but Brady's pumpkin is a shark. :) We carved the stem into a 'fin' and it has gills. Kollin has... a football!

Our swimmer...

I was able to get footage of B during his swim lesson. He has blue goggles on (upside down :) ) and he's doing his freestyle stroke. Last week he was able to swim the length of the pool and this week he made it half way. (This was after swimming two lengths with the kickboard.) He is working so hard and having a great time! His Mother needs to buy him a smaller suit... he has plumber bum. :)

Backyard fun

The boys had a great weekend playing touch football in the backyard with some of the neighbors. Thought I'd share some of the pics...

Playoffs

We lost our first game in the playoffs this weekend, but we had a great game despite the loss. The final score was 6-12. Kollin had an awesome run gaining about 20 yards and made a lot of great tackles. It's so much fun to watch him play, he has so much passion... or he's very dramatic just like him Mom. :) He did a great job of putting his 'tough' football face on when he saw me with the camera. After the game he ran on the field by himself, just running from end zone to end zone. I can't quite explain the feeling I get from watching him. It's like he's the happiest kid in the world doing what he loves most. Seeing him so happy just makes you smile and want to cry at the same time. :)

Weekend update

Brady is having an awesome time at swim class. He was the only one in his group to swim the length of the pool today! I wasn't there to witness it first hand as I was with Kollin at football. We'll switch off next weekend so I can get footage.

Meanwhile at the football game...

It certainly was the first real football game with football weather. Kollin's game started at 9:00 but we had to be at the field at 8:00AM. Due to the early hour it was about 40 degrees. Kollin was pretty cold and not too pepped up. I started thinking and had an epiphany. We restrict the amount of sugar Kollin gets due to the energy burst that follows. :) However on this cold blah morning I thought he could use a little energy burst. I decided to go to the concession stand and buy 1 airhead (kind of like taffy). He came off the field after warming up and was almost in tears because he was so cold. I gave him his receiver gloves and offered him 1/4 of the piece of taffy. He was happy to have his hands warm and ate the airhead, asking for the rest after the game. Within 5 minutes he was rallying his team and playing like he did at the beginning of the season. He scored two touchdowns and ran the ball for one extra point. He was a football maniac! :) It was nice to see him feeling so good and excited again. He's going to play in the varsity game tomorrow so we'll keep you posted. Needless to say, I'm going to purchase one airhead tomorrow afternoon. :)

Weekend update...

Brady has another swim lesson on Saturday and I finally remembered the camera! :) He's still loving it and is learning a lot.

Kollin played on turf in the 'big stadium' on Saturday. We lost by two touchdowns and the boys took it hard. Jereme is now helping to coach the team. The parents love him and he's awesome at getting the boys pumped up. The boys are still learning and working hard. Kollin had a few good runs and is doing great on defense. (He's #4)

Football updates...

Kollin is still trying to find his 'umph', for lack of a better word. It was a unanimous decision to move him to JV to gain more confidence (something Jereme & I thought we should do from the get-go.). He played his first JV game, in the pouring rain, against Boys Club this past Saturday. The final score was 7-0, Boys Club, but we definitely played a good game. It was pouring all morning and, of course, Kollin was thrilled to finally get to play in the rain. I on the other hand would have loved different weather conditions. :) I had my trusty yellow poncho from Disney still in my 'bag of tricks', which really only kept me dry from my waist to my neck. They needed people to work the 'chain' , so as a helpful football Mom I volunteered. I stood in the rain with my poncho holding a yard marker the whole game. It was a fun experience and I think I might try it again, just not in the rain. Jereme was lucky enough (not) to be asked to ref since only one ref showed up. It was a total Vaught family football game! :) (We were only missing B-nut who was tearing it up in the swimming pool. He's still having a great time! Again, no pics because we left in a frenzy and Mom-Mom had to take him to practice.) Anyway, Kollin played an awesome defensive game! He held back to watch who was carrying the ball and then attacked. He's still building his confidence with offense. He carried the ball for about 10 yards and when he saw the other team aiming for him, he pretty much tensed up and braced himself for impact instead of blazing past them. He'll figure it out sooner or later, especially because Jere keeps pointing things out when they watch NFL games together.  I didn't get any pictures since it was raining but I'll catch some sweet footage this Saturday...

First day of swimming

B had his first swim class this morning. He had two friends stay over last night and they all managed to stay up until 1:30 AM! I wasn't sure how cooperative B was going to be since he didn't have a great night sleep, but he was ready to go! He was grilling us all morning about what was expected of him. (I think after watching the Olympics, he thought he was going to have to race or something.) There were only about 8 kids, including B, in his class and it was only about 40 minutes long. He practiced floating, kicking w/a kick board, freestyle arm stroke AND he got to jump in the deep end at the end of class! He loves it! He says he's never going to quit swimming and he can't wait until next week! I forgot my camera this week so I'll update w/pics next week.

Football game results...

Well, we won our second game! Who-hoo! It was a HOT day and, of course, the games were running behind schedule. Our game started about an hour late but luckily I still had our portable fans in my 'bag of tricks' from our Disney trip. B was a total trooper and didn't complain at all! We won 24-0 and K scored a sweet touchdown in the second quarter. Playing with the big boys has worked on Kollin's confidence a little but we're working through it. We got him extra pads to help with the tackling and he seems ready for his first home game on Sunday. We'll keep you posted! : )

Brady's 7th Birthday!

We had a small part-of-the-family get-together for B's birthday today. It was great to spend some time with Mom-Mom & Aunt Dany, Grandpa & G-ma, Big Nana, and Mitch, Theresa and Audrey. The boys got to swim for a little bit before they dove into nachos and played ping-pong. Brady loves all of his gifts! He's resting on the sofa next to me - he has his books with him, already played his Wii games, turned on his 'under the sea' light, and is asking to sleep with his receiver gloves. :) Sitting here looking at him it's hard to believe that seven short years ago he was as little as Audrey. Now he's growing up and trying to be a big boy, but still needs to snuggle Mom in the evening and sleep with the same blankies he's had... for seven years. It's crazy how fast time flies.

It was great spending time with Audrey, and Mitch & Theresa :). She's getting so big, so fast. She's smiling lots, looking all around, chewing on her little hands, and blowing bubbles. Apparently she loves football because she was fixed on the game. :) We'll have to ask her to cheer for Kollin - his second game is tomorrow. We'll keep you posted...

1st Football game of the season...

You know that saying "no guts, no glory"?... it really doesn't apply to us. :) We gave plenty of guts but didn't end up with the glory. Our first game was against Boys Club, known for their speed and aggressive playing style, with a final score of 30-something to zip. The Boys Club boyz were about a head to a head and a half above most of our players and ran like Cheetahs. :) We definitely need to practice our blocking and tackling skills. Kollin played well and took quite a few hits. He did catch the ball when the other team kicked off and was ready to sprint to the end zone. Unfortunately, there was a swarm of red players (the other team) heading in his direction and a few moments of mass confusion that ended up in a fumble. Needless to say Kollin wasn't very pleased. I gave him props for catching the ball, and next time running for the touch down. I think if I would've been on the field with all of those guys aiming for me I would've gone the other way and wet myself. :) So... all in all it was a good first game. :) The good news is this is the toughest team they'll have to play. With a little practice on key items this week, I think the next game on Sunday will grant us the glory.

First day of school/Football's starting...

Both the boys had a great first day of school! Kollin likes his teacher and he got to share Disney stories with his class. Brady's first day rocked - he had tacos for lunch and met a cute girl. :) He said he thought he might love her but he's not sure. They both had 20 papers for us to sign, a fundraiser (already!) and homework. Kollin felt extra cool because he's the big brother and was able to help B with his work. We're sticking to our schedule of doing homework right away, then snack and play. It's going to be a tiring few weeks with homework and football practice from 6 to 8. Kollin's first football game is this Sunday - wish us luck!
